Keller Junior High School was named after Helen Keller, an American author and lecturer who was deaf and blind from infancy.

Keller is a seventh- and eighth-grade junior high school serving about 600 students, which feed from four District 54 elementary schools – Lakeview, Enders-Salk, Hoover and Fairview.

The students are divided into four academic teams. Each team has a core group of teachers representing language arts, math, social studies, science and physical development. Students also have an opportunity to take two elective classes in art, general and instrumental music, foreign language and media.

Keller students also have an opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities including interscholastic and intramural athletics, GEMS (Girls in Engineering, Math and Science), Web club, Math Counts, Character Council, yearbook, cheerleading, pompons and the school newspaper.

Sports teams include cross-country, basketball, girls’ volleyball, wrestling and track. The teams compete against other schools in District 54.

A full continuum of special services is available to students in District 54. Each of the junior high schools has Discovery classes for eligible gifted students, although eligible children can also attend the magnet school at Mead Junior High School in Elk Grove Village.
